DICK'S PEAK

4.18.2001

Our tracks down Dick's Peak

The ski season was pretty much over, and what a season it had been. It became a bit silly: I'd go to work Monday, feel too sick to work on Tuesday, go back Wednesday, start to feel good by Friday, then go skiing on Saturday and/or Sunday. This pattern repeated itself for a month at which point the season was almost over. But not quite yet.

Alain and I decided to take a ski trip to Dick's Peak located in the Desolation Wilderness area across from Emerald Bay in Lake Tahoe. It was a long 3.5 hour hike to the base of the peak, then about 1 hour to the top and a mere 10-15 minute ski down. Then another hike up a side mountain and some more skiing. Round trip was about 10 hours. I had a rough time because of my illness, but fortunately made it. Of course, Alain has a knack of making his skiing partners hurt regardless of their physical condition.

So this trip wrapped up the 2000-2001 season. I went to the doctor, found out I had bronchitis, got some antibiotics, and finally recovered fully a few weeks later.
