MARDI GRAS COOKOFF

2.23.2002

Claude, Gumbo Queen

Since moving from Texas, I have yet to find a decent cajun restaurant in the Bay Area. There are many imitators, but none truly compare to what I had in the South. If you know of a place here that serves fried catfish po-boys and crawfish etouffee on dirty rice, let me know.

To satiate my cajun food desires, I decided to take matters into my own hands and have a Mardi Gras Masquerade and Cook-Off, another in a long line of parties held at the Woodmont House. Everyone was invited to bring their culinary creations for all to sample and judge. We had a good turnout with gumbo, jambalaya, shrimp etouffee, beignets, and even a King Cake. Strangely, we didn't take many pictures of the food because when it was served, we were all too busy eating it.

While the ladies gathered around the desserts (with the notable exception of Toby who is always on a tight leash)

A few crab remnants for Claude's gumbo were all that remained
Inevitably, every party Akemi and Yuri attend turns into a Salsa dance fest
